MSU to Host Third International Conference on Communities Technologies

Michigan State University is scheduled to host the 3rd International Conference on Communities Technologies from June 28-30, 2007. This biennial meeting serves as a forum for stimulating and disseminating research on the complex connections between communities and information and communication technologies. The MSU Working Group on Computing and Information recently submitted a proposal titled The School of Computing and Information to Provost Kim Wilcox and Vice President Ian Gray.

September 26, 2005:
In February of this year, Michigan State University hosted a landmark event, Strategic Visioning For Cyberinfrastructure, Computing, and Information, to begin a campus-wide dialogue on the University in the Digital Age. As a direct outcome of this event, a Working Group on Computing and Information was formed and began the process of casting a vision and identifying next steps. What resulted is a proposal titled The School of Computing and Information, which was submitted to Provost Kim Wilcox and Vice President Ian Gray.

Alwin Mahler, Vice President Strategy, Telefónica Germany and Adjunct Assistant Professor, Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media, is giving a lecture entitled "IP Networking and Services as New Entry Strategy in Telecommunications: Industry Trends and the Case of Telefónica Germany" on Wednesday August 31, 2005 from 4:00-5:30 in the Communications, Arts, and Sciences building on Michigan State University's campus. Strategic Visioning for Cyberinfrastructure, Computing, and Information

February 19, 2005:
The president of the National Academy of Engineering was the guest lecturer for a Michigan State University’s University Distinguished Lecture held on February 17, 2005. Bill Wulf spoke on Opportunities and Challenges for Universities From Information Technology, which was a prelude to the weekend’s workshop on cyberinfrastructure held on February 19, 2005. The workshop, Strategic Visioning For Cyberinfrastructure, Computing, and Information served as an opportunity for MSU faculty to discuss the future of computing and information and its implications on scholarly research and teaching.
